This guide will equip you with the knowledge and practical steps to transform your home from chaotic kingdom to a haven of peace, all while preparing your belongings for a smooth transition to Delphos Self Storage. Step 1: Embrace the Power of Decluttering Before diving into storage solutions, let's tackle the root of the problem: clutter itself. Think of decluttering as a mental and physical detox, a chance to shed the excess and rediscover the joy of space. Here's how to approach it: Set realistic goals: Don't aim for overnight miracles. Start with one room or even one drawer at a time. Small victories lead to big transformations. Employ the sorting magic: Create three piles – keep, donate/sell, and toss. Be ruthless but fair. Remember, less is often more, especially when it comes to clutter. Channel your inner Marie Kondo: Ask yourself if each item sparks joy. If not, thank it for its service and let it go. Letting go of things: Instead of throwing your things in the trash, consider upcycling your stuff to people in need in your community using freecycle.org. Step 2: Organize with Intention With the clutter under control, it's time to create a system that keeps things organized and ready for storage. Here are some key strategies: Categorize and compartmentalize: Group similar items together, like books by genre or kitchenware by type. Use containers, shelves, and dividers to create designated spaces for everything. Label like a pro: Clear labels are your best friends. They'll save you time and frustration when searching for that elusive spatula later. Utilize vertical space: Walls are prime real estate! Install shelves, hanging organizers, or even pegboards to maximize your storage capacity without sacrificing floor space. Step 3: Pack Like a Pro for Delphos Self Storage Now that your home is an organized oasis, it's time to prepare your belongings for their temporary (or permanent) residence at ...

Move-Out Process

Move-Out

Moving out of a self-storage unit can be a stressful experience, but with a little preparation and planning, you can ensure that the process goes smoothly. As your rental period comes to an end, we want to provide you with some instructions to help make your move-out experience hassle-free. Provide at least 10 days' notice before vacating the unit This allows enough time for the facility manager to prepare the unit for the next guest and ensures that there are no issues with payments or contracts. Please notify your facility manager in writing (email or text message) or by calling and providing them with your intended move-out date. Provide a forwarding address We encourage you to provide your facility manager with a forwarding address, so they can send any correspondence or refunds that may be due to you after the unit has been vacated. Clean the unit thoroughly To be eligible to get your security deposit back, you need to leave the unit in the same condition as when you rented it. Remove all items from the unit, wipe down any surfaces and sweep or vacuum the floor clean. Take a photo of the unit clean To keep a record of your move-out, it's a good idea to take two photos of your unit with your mobile device. Take one picture of the unit empty and clean and another of the unit number. Then, send these pictures to your facility manager via email or text message to confirm that you have moved out. Take your lock with you When moving out of a storage unit, it is important to remember to take your lock with you. This may seem like an obvious step, but many people forget and end up leaving the lock behind, resulting in unnecessary fees. If you leave your lock behind, the facility manager will have to cut it off in order to gain access to the unit. This means that you will likely be charged a lock cutting fee, which can be quite expensive. This fee ...

How to Properly Store your Belongings and Keep them Safe at a Self-Storage Facility

Move-In

Use high-quality locks It's crucial to use a sturdy disc padlock or padlock to secure your storage unit. Avoid using cheap locks that can be easily broken into. Additionally, it's important to never share your key or combination with anyone else, as this can compromise the security of your unit. Store your items strategically When packing your belongings in your storage unit, consider placing your most valuable items towards the back of the unit where they'll be less visible and less accessible to potential thieves. Additionally, try to place items that you'll need in the near future towards the front for easy access. As a general rule of thumb, leave about 6 inches of space between your belongings and the unit door to avoid obstructing the door's operation when you need to open it later on. This will make it easier for you to move items in and out of your unit without any hassle. Store your items on pallets Concrete is notorious for wicking moisture, to protect your belongings from moisture when storing them, it's recommended that you store them on pallets. By elevating your belongings off the ground, you can keep them away from any moisture that the concrete may release. To provide extra protection, you can also lay down a tarp on the floor underneath the pallets. This will act as a vapor barrier to prevent moisture from seeping through and damaging your cherished belongings. Leave space for ventilation When storing your items in your unit, it's important to leave enough space between boxes to allow for proper ventilation. This will help prevent moisture buildup and reduce the risk of mold and mildew growth over time. Cover belongings with a tarp When storing your belongings in a drive-up self storage unit, be sure to cover everything with a tarp in case the roof leaks or any condensation forms on the metal during sever temperature shifts during the season changes. Label your items When storing your items, it's important to label each box clearly. Include a brief description of ...
